Who we are

Darren Farmer

Darren Farmer

Owner

  • Rooted in Martu culture (Puntu), Darren Farmer has dedicated more than twenty years to advancing the Dutjahn vision, strengthening the rights of his people to live from their land and culture. Elected as the youngest Australian and Torres Strait Islander Commissioner in the 1990s, he went on to support Elders and Central Desert Native Title Services through a landmark Birriliburu–Martu Native Title claim, culminating in the 2014 Exclusive Determination that secured full natural resource rights for Martu people. By 2016, the State withdrew its final appeal, affirming Martu ownership of their Country’s resources.

Clinton Farmer

Clinton Farmer

Owner

  • A lifelong self‑employed sandalwood harvester, Clinton Farmer was taught by his father Ken (first contact, deceased) to care for Country through the cultural principles of custodianship. Desert sandalwood harvesting is demanding work, and Clinton leads Kutkububba Aboriginal Corporation’s Indigenous Martu harvesting enterprise with the same sense of cultural responsibility and commercial duty passed down through his family. Caring for Country and continuing his father’s legacy remains both an obligation and an honour for Clinton as he supports the Martu people’s ongoing connection to their land.

Keith Drage

Keith Drage

Owner

  • Since immigrating to Australia in 2000, Keith Drage, together with co‑founder Ron Mulder, established Silvalis (formerly WA Sandalwood Plantations) and has served as Managing Director since 2001.

Over two decades, he has overseen the development and management of every commercial Western Australian sandalwood plantation under Silvalis’ stewardship, working closely with institutional investors and clients. Keith brings extensive experience in corporate management, finance, sales, and client relations, built on an earlier 14‑year global career with ICAP Plc, where he led currency options divisions across London, Hong Kong, Tokyo, Sydney and New York.

A chemistry graduate from University College London, Keith’s leadership has been central to shaping Australia’s plantation sandalwood industry and strengthening the partnership with Dutjahn Sandalwood Oils.

Ron Mulder

Ron Mulder

Owner

  • Ron Mulder founded New Forest WA in 1995 to specialise in propagating and supplying Western Australian sandalwood as part of broader land‑care and salinity‑reduction efforts. His early research and the successful establishment of thousands of trees positioned him to capitalise on the deregulation of commercial sandalwood farming in the mid‑1990s.

Building on this foundation, Ron and Keith Drage co‑founded Silvalis (formerly WA Sandalwood Plantations) in 2001. Today, Silvalis has grown into the world’s largest manager of Santalum spicatum plantation assets, overseeing more than 13,000 hectares of sandalwood in Western Australia’s Wheatbelt and playing a key role in the plantation–wildwood partnership that supports Dutjahn Sandalwood Oils.
