From the Gibson Desert to New York

Clinton Farmer's father walked out of the desert in the 1950s. He stepped beyond his homelands and set eyes on colonial Australia for the first time.

"Humble beginnings" is how he describes his father's journey from a nomadic life to what was to come: gaining a license to harvest sandalwood with a dream of creating employment for Aboriginal people in the desert.

"Dad had a dream," Mr Farmer said.
